You can travel with your cherished pet if you have a Pet Passport. Different countries have varying requirements but there are a few standard actions you need to take. Let’s look at how to get a US Pet Passport.
- Vet endorsement and clean bill of health from approved vets. For a US passport the vet must be federally accredited.
- Apply for a USDA endorsement for your pet. The USA must send relevant paperwork required for the destination country to the State USDA office for endorsement prior to the pet leaving the country.
- All countries require a rabies vaccination for cats, dogs and ferrets. It’s good to have all your pets immunizations up to date.
- Some countries also require microchipping.
- Sometimes tapeworm treatment is also required.
The best place to start with obtaining a US Passport for your pet is your local federally accredited vet.
